The results of this quarter's product review are in this week, and there have been some disappointing cuts—especially Chartreuse and Strega. (But realistically, who ever bought Chartreuse, besides cocktail enthusiasts and goths?)

Felipe II is a solid brandy for the price, and in Pennsylvania it was well-positioned for success after Fundador was delisted. I guess that didn't work out.

We've got two Slivovitz products in stores currently—Maraska Slivovitz (#06567, Regular, $23.99) looks safe for the moment, so hopefully the Jelinek Slivovitz isn't too big of a loss.

The Wild Scotsman Scotch has a bit of a local connection for us here in Pittsburgh, so it's sad to see it go. Wild Scotsman is owned and blended by a fellow named Jeff Topping, who claims to be the only American living in the US who blends his own scotch. Although Jeff lives in Cincinnati, his brother, Drew Topping, owns Piper's Pub which is a great restaurant and bar here in Pittsburgh. Aside from Sunday brunch, the big attraction at Piper's is their collection of scotches, which numbered over 90 last I checked. Anyway, the Wild Scotsman was priced rather high, especially for a new-to-market blended scotch, which probably led to poor sales. It would have a permanent place in my liquor cabinet if it were $20 less.

Relisted:
  • Arrow Lime Vodka 750 ML (#61276, SLO, $11.09)
  • Jacquin's Creme de Almond 750 ML (#04481, Closeout, $5.99)

New Products:
  • El Diamante del Cielo Tequila 3 Btl Pkg 750 ML (#50915, SLO, $61.89)
  • Highland Park 18 Yr Old Single Malt Scotch 750ML (#10863, Specialty, $99.99)
  • Jim Beam Red Stag Bourbon 1.0 L (#55580, SLO, $23.69)
  • Popov Cherry Vodka 750 ML (#64148, SLO, $8.29)
  • Popov Grape Vodka 750 ML (#64625, SLO, $8.29)
  • Popov Vodka 80 Proof 1.75L (#06156, One Time, $11.99)
  • Remy Martin 1989 750 ML (#59405, SLO, $392.89)
  • Tribuno Dry Vermouth 750 ML (#56856, SLO, $6.00)

Red Stag is a...unique new product from Jim Beam. It's cherry-flavored bourbon. Really. I would be skeptical, but if John Hansell likes it, it must be good.

Not surprised the Pernod absinthe was discontinued. It's good, but not $69.99 good.

Chartreuse, why! You never caused anyone harm, you only had love in your heart for everyone!

Okay, maybe thats a lie, and I know why. That being said, the loss of easy access to one of my favorite spirits really kinda bums me out.

Dr. B -- It's been in and out of the catalog a number of times. Probably they're just not able to keep it in stock or something? Yet another PLCB mystery...

Freddie -- It bums me out too. Sadly, this is how the PLCB works. Variety of selection doesn't much factor into their in-store stock; the only thing that counts is raw sales volume and promotional support from the distributor/brand. Which explains why vodka represents 23% of all spirits stocked in stores.
