You may be aware (or, if you're lucky, you may not be aware) that the PLCB has been upgrading some of their computer systems over the past, oh, year or so. For the most part, this hasn't affected my ability to generate the reports that I post here, but at some point in September something broke subtly. Since that time, my reports have been showing some delisted products as available in-store, and some products that are available in-store as delisted.
Everything's fixed now (hopefully), but I have no way to tell which data over the past two months were inaccurate. There seems to be a quarterly product release in this pile of new codes. Most exciting is that we can now
purchase Aperol from the online store, instead of having to place a 12-bottle SLO to get it.
Also available online is Crispin's Rose Liqueur, a fascinating product created by infusing rose petals into apple-honey eau de vie distilled at the Germain-Robin distillery. A little steep for my budget, but it would make a romantic Christmas gift if you've got the money.
Don Q rums are available by SLO now. These are Puerto Rican rums that supposedly showcase the Puerto Rican rum style much better than the horrible Bacardi products. Their flagship white rum, Don Q Cristal, wasn't listed by the end of last week, but as of this writing it seems to have appeared in the catalog.
Haus Am Markt Obstler is the only obstler available in PA since Stroh Obstler got delisted. Obstler is a German brandy made from apples and pears, which sounds perfect for this time of year. I've never tasted this brand, but for $23 I might order a bottle to try it.
I received a sample bottle of Kahlua Coffee Cream a couple months ago; it's pretty much what you'd expect. A good deal of the bottle went into chocolate milkshakes. It's a "limited edition" product so if it sounds like your kind of thing, grab a bottle when you see one.
After complaining some months ago that the only Marie Brizard product available in stores is one of the few from their line that I didn't want, what happens? They add a second one: Creme de Menthe. What is this stuff used for? Stingers, Grasshoppers, and...? Let's get some Orange Curacao and Creme de Cacao in here, folks.
Bottled-in-Bond Rittenhouse Rye is back, finally, although they have increased the price substantially from $12 to $20. It could be worse, though--there's no Sazerac Rye to be found in the state at any price, and it's been that way for most of the year now.
Last but not least, something very surprising showed up in the catalog: 190 proof grain alcohol. Don't get excited, though. You still can't walk into a store and buy it without filling out
an affidavit swearing that you won't actually drink the stuff.
